Vintage Mid Century hand carved wooden frog or toad made of rare cryptomeria wood, native to Japan.   The colors are gorgeous, rich browns and the wood is famous for its beautiful grain. The carvers used the grain so beautifully that the piece is a work of art. This stylized amphibian has a highly raised grain.  Hardened by a lack of moisture and poor soil, the famed cryptomeria develops slowly, forming the prized grain patterns.   Marked on the bottom: Seyfort Victoria ( which I believe is in Australia) This marking is in pen, so maybe the original owner marked it to remember where it was purchased). This would be a beautiful addition to any collection, whether your passion is Japanese collectibles, frogs, toads, wood figures, 1950s artworks, or Mid-Century decor.
